Alfreton Society of Painters

Alfreton Society of Painters

We were originally founded in 1947 to study and encourage the pursuit of the visual arts. Over the years we have become a group of artists working in all levels of media. We have an annual events programme, and as we are always open to new ideas, this is subject to additions throughout the year.
We are a very friendly group of artists from the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire areas. We get together on Thursday evenings 7.00 til 9.00pm at the Penny Town Community Centre, Somercotes DE55 4TB

We work in a friendly relaxed atmosphere, with help and guidance available if required. We have a  variety of workshops throughout the year and a regular visiting artist is Matthew Palmer who runs a watercolour workshop for us twice a year. Why not come along one Thursday evening and have a cup of tea and a chat there’s Disabled access and Ample Parking We look forward to seeing you.

EXHIBITIONS        Recently we were invited to take part in a very popular local event the “PARTY IN THE PARK, ALFRETON” Visitors come from a large surrounding area. This proved to be a great success, the weather was extremely kind to us, and we had a large marquee of work on exhibition. We are expecting that this will become a regular permanent date on our calendar. The Society is open to anyone in and around Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire with an interest in art, and encourages practical involvement at all levels. Members include professional and amateur artists alongside absolute beginners, as well as those who simple enjoy the visual arts and would like to broaden their understanding. And people who just enjoy soaking up the atmosphere devoted to artistic and creative work, and like socialising with like-minded people. We are always open to new ideas to improve our Club, and new members are always very welcome.
MEDIA     As well as painting, we also welcome more craft based activities, such as knitting, crochet card making etc.
SUBJECTS    Our subject matter is vast! Members never cease to amaze us all with their creativity!
