The Lawrence Society of Art, Devizes in Wiltshire was founded in 1953. The Society was named after Sir Thomas Lawrence (1769 – 1830), the famous royal portrait painter. The Lawrence Art Society aims to foster interest in art by lectures, demonstrations, classes, outings, workshops and a major annual exhibition. • Meetings are held on the first Monday of the Month at 7.30 (except July, August and January) in the the Assembly Rooms at Devizes Town Hall. • Annual Membership is £15 (£6 for students). 6th June Dee Cowell ? Demonstration: Another visit from this popular multi-talented artist, this time her subject will be ?Flowers in Pastels?.
5th September Kate Cochrane ? Demonstration: A colourist painter with a wide range of subjects, Kate has chosen for tonight?s demonstration. ?Glastonbury Abbey in Acrylics?
3rd October Mike Skidmore ? Demonstration: An experienced and popular artist, Mike will be showing us how he creates a
?Portrait in Oils?.
7th November Geraldine Francis: - Demonstration: A local artist who, with her partner Sue Whelan, runs the Fired Thoughts Gallery at
Lydeway, will be showing us how she paints her original ceramics.
9th-12th November Annual exhibition in the Corn Exchange Opens
5th December Social evening and Annual General Meeting. Please come along and let us know your views on your Society and enjoy a social evening with friends.

6th February Simon Bishop: - Demonstration: ?Portrait in Oils? A popular member of our Society, Simon will be letting us into the secret of how he paints his striking portraits using heavy density oils.
6th March Soraya French ? Demonstration: A versatile artist and winner of many awards, Soraya will be demonstrating her pastel painting skills on Fisher 400 Paper.
3rd April Gerald Porter: Talk: - A popular Art Historian who was with the Tate Modern for many years will tonight be speaking on
'Art Movements in the Late 19th/Early 20th Century'.
8th May Colin Brown.-. Demonstration ? Another visit from this well-known artist, tonight Colin will be using Acrylics to show us how paints a ?Street Scene in Black and White?.
5th June Kit Leese ? Demonstration ? Kit enjoyed a varied career before becoming a full-time painter in a wide-range of media. Tonight his subject is ?A Harbour Scene using Gouache?
The first meeting of the 2017/18 membership year will be September 2017
Outings and additional workshops will be arranged subject to demand.
Monthly meetings are held in the Assembly Hall, Town Hall Devizes and commence at 7.30 pm
