David Capon

Crete, Apokorona

I live in North Western Crete near the north coast and most of my works are based on the landscapes, culture, history, people and especially the Nature of the island. The mountain scenery, particularly, and the coastline (away from the tourist season) are exceptional inspirations. Occasionally I paint surrealist art and a range of subjects based on autumnal colours.

I provide teaching at a weekly workshop in nearby Plaka.

I use oil or acrylic for most of my larger paintings. I love watercolour and use that for most of the smaller works. For older village buildings and ruins I often use pen and ink as it gives a sense of antiquity.

I think the one thing that gives me the greatest pleasure is the reaction of people who see my work for the first time either in my studio or at an exhibition.
