Jane E Anderson Wood

Leatherhead, Surrey

I completed my art school career with a post graduate course in Printmaking at the Slade School of Art, and began teaching part time and exhibiting prints and drawings at several London galleries and European Art Fairs. I started painting in watercolour when I gave up the demands of my lithography studio in London, and moved to Surrey to bring up my two daughters. Working in this exciting medium was a natural progression for me. The magical translucency of ink and paint is part of a shared repertoire of subtle visual qualities in both stone lithography and watercolour painting. In 2007 I was elected as an exhibiting member of the Dorking Group of Artists, and in 2013 I was elected as Chairman of the group. I have shown with the SWA at the Mall Galleries, 2011 & 2012, and with the RWS in their Annual Open Exhibition in 2013.
In watercolour, I mix the traditional with contemporary and experimental approaches; I move from landscape subjects to still life and back again, delighting in the opportunities to play with the medium that the change in subject allows, keeping my interest in painting in watercolour lively and adventurous. In the end I'm just delighted and absorbed by painting in a medium that transforms my subjects into light and colour, capturing my imaginative and inventive response to the world around me.
