John Horton

WORCESTER, Worcestershire

I specialise in large watercolour paintings often depicting birds in landscape. These are inspired by observation and field sketches. The picture is developed through a free drawing process in the studio which is then refined to the finished work using all available reference for accuracy and detail. I travel widely and always have a camera and sketchbook at the ready to capture the events that will form the heart of a new picture. Watercolour is my favourite medium for its softness and subtlety but I also enjoy using oil, acrylic and pencil. I take commissions on all subjects and a lifelong passion for the natural world underlies all my work. I enjoy visiting art societies and clubs to give demonstrations and workshops and I also hold one day workshops in my studio/gallery on a Saturday and Tuesday every month usually on a seasonal theme. Full schedule on application.
