Toni Watts

Lincoln, Lincolnshire

I started my artistic life as a wildlife artist. Largely self taught, I now have work in private collections in the UK, North America, Europe, Asia and Australia.

I am have contributed chapters on painting wildlife in acrylic for two books published in America. Both show step-by-step instructions on how my work is produced. The Art of Painting in Acrylic was published in 2014, The Art of Painting Animals this year.

Although I used to work almost exclusively in acrylic, I am now equally happy to create with pastels, pencils, inks - and sometimes throw them all together in one painting, appreciating the possibilities of working in mixed media.

Whilst my wildlife painting becomes more expressive, as an illuminator (applying 24 carat gold to paper, as they would have done in the Middle Ages) I am getting incresingly precise - which is a good thing! I am the Artist in Residence at Lincoln Cathedral and am producing a range of new illuminated paintings - new images made with medieval pigments and gold. I have recently been commissioned by the Historic Lincoln Trust to produce a gift for HRH The Duke of Gloucester.
