Artists of the Year 2024 is open for entries ENTER NOW
I am a Printmaker and work full time as an Occupational Therapist for the NHS. I created this print during the second lockdown, which was more challenging for me. The lockdowns were taking their toll and lack of contact with people I cared for was difficult. Therefore I tried to remain focused and found a printmaking competition to enter with restrictions to yellow and black. This challenged me creatively and technically. I used the first lockdown experience (of learning a reduction lino print) to create a contemporary reduction lino print with two main colours. This print was a 5-colour print using tones in yellow and black. The idea was to have an image which was painterly and free from solid hard lines which lino can be sometimes. I wanted a feeling of freedom (which was the opposite to how we were all feeling). Hence the title of the print; “Expression” as I wanted it to be expressive and free.
