Honeysuckle with Painted Lady

Debbie Cullis

Five years ago, just after I was admitted into hospital, I painted a series of butterfly paintings to show my progression of coming out of an illness and so too my Mom. I have symbolized the Painted Lady as my Mom amongst an array of beautiful flowers. The honeysuckle flowers are beautifully, brightly coloured and a haven for bees to suck on nectar. I had them outside my kitchen window, in a previous house I was in, and dreamed of painting them for many years till eventually I came to the Outer Hebrides and my dream came true to paint everything I ever wanted to paint. I was inspired by Janet Whittle and Ann Blockley.
