Knaresborough, Yorkshire

Richard Harpum

This painting has been selected as a Finalist in International Artist Magazine's Landscape Art Challenge No. 55 and published in Issue 71 February/March 2010. For the full story, please visit my web site: www.richardharpum.com. Knaresborough is a beautiful, historic market and spa town in North Yorkshire, England and is set on a bluff on the River Nidd. The railway viaduct over the river is a focal point and is the main subject of this painting, where it is viewed from the fourteenth century castle. Crossing the viaduct is the Union of South Africa, an A4 locomotive pulling the Scarborough Spa Express, which ran in July and August 2007. The painting contains a great deal of detail and my aim is to draw the viewer in to explore the town and discover what is going on.
