Landscape Moods 46: Hollow Hunt

Landscape Moods 46: Hollow Hunt is influenced by gothic films, the British Trees and Landscapes around me as the piece was created en plien air, featuring key elements from my 'Landscape Moods' series of paintings. This painting features a central figure of a knotted, undulating gothic tree which gives the impression it is deeply linked and almost consumed by the landscape it lives featuring Emerald granules to add texture and natural elements. The roots spread out all around the ground pulling and adding movement to the tree, yet pushing away other trees as it draws out the goodness from the earth. The owl featured is created on music score coloured with beautiful Derwent Aquatone Pencils and is selectively enhanced by embossing powders. The music score adds the idea of sound from an owl that is so quiet. The embossing powders brighten the colours and add a beautiful shine which draws the eye. It is swooping into the opening of the trees on the hunt with its eyes fixed on you no matter where you may be standing, making you ask if it is hunting you. Materials used include: Acrylic paint (gloss and matt effects), Derwent Aquatone Pencils, Derwent Graphite Pencils, Genuine Natural Gemstone Granules: Emerald, Gilding Flakes, Gilding Leaf, Sand, Conte Pastels, Ink Texturing and Stamping, Oil Pastels, Lace stencil, Metallic Ink, Mica Powder and Sponge Painting Techniques. This painting is copyright Laura Elliott BA Hons - Artist & Metal Clay Designer (2014).
