Paraisos artificiales

Carlos Ferg

This is my own version of Fernand Khnopff’s The Caresses. On 19th century it depicted the duality and ambiguity of woman as angel and muse and femme fatale as well. It was a representation of role that woman was acquiring in a purely patriarchal society. It depicts the concept of androgyny, in relation with the myth of Edipo and the Sphinx. Landscape is adapted to Symbolist principles, it reveals a preference for melancholy regions forsaken by people , for broad horizons. Landscape transforms its motifs into sensual enigmas.
