Portrait of my daughter
As a portrait artist I essentially capture a person in particular place at a moment in time. And yet there's so much more to it. For example, in this portrait of my girl she's at an age where her frames of reference are changing. She's moving from the safe confines of our relatively small home/community to the world of social media, where she sees a world of possibilities and I see a potenially dangerous place where things aren't always as they seem. She's at a time in her life when time seems to be moving way to slow for her and far too quickly for me. I think it's a great example of a portrait of our times, inspired by paintings of long ago. I'd like it to make you stop and think about how we, as humans, who appear to exist in the same amount of space during the same period time, all perceive, experience and see things differently.
