Self-portrait in Orange Tunic

Nik Courtney

My husband took the reference photo for this. He caught me off guard of course, and it shows, but my expression also says so much about me...it captures my awkwardness, my constant tiredness, a frazzled brain with a million things on my mind, not entirely sure if I'm ever doing the right thing.

I'm wearing a top that Terry and littlun bought for me because they knew it was my favourite colour. I love how it hangs, catches the light and how the angle of my hands and ends of my hair echo it's hemline. I also like the perspective in this...it's taken from Terry's height, it's how he sees me - which I've never really considered before.

It's not meant to be flattering. It's not really how I want the world to see me but as I said to littlun the other day....it doesn't matter if things aren't perfect, or if things don't go to plan, or what people think of us. It's about how we think of ourselves and what we do to overcome difficulties.
