The Birthday Cake

Iris Howitt

I couldn't resist painting this picture of my grandson Corey, crouching on the grass eating his birthday cake. It looked so truly scrumptious that he couldn't wait to find his seat at the table.
Painted with pastel sticks and pencils on Pastel Card, I kept the clothing loose and understated to focus on his concentrated expression and his birthday cake.
I fixed it at intervals to keep the surface grip and found there was little loose dust in the finished painting.
Then the Pastel Frame and gutter mount completed the picture and gives me confidence that any dust will be kept clear.
