The Strid - Autumn
The Strid is a spot near Bolton Priory, where the river Wharfe suddenly narrows and becomes a fast-flowing torrent. The name comes from the fact that it used to be a stride to get across the river and it was once an activity to be done to prove you are a Yorkshireman! The river actually deepens to 60 metres and has been the scene of more than one fatality.
Despite this gloomy past it is a wionderful place!
