Paint magazine

January 2021

We hope you enjoy reading this exclusive digital copy of Paint magazine – it’ll provide oodles of inspiration, knowledge and support into the New Year.

A much happier one than the last one, we hope. Still, there are some things which, without it, we wouldn’t have had the privilege to see. For instance, Captain Sir Tom Moore’s outstanding achievements raising money for charity in the run-up to his 100th birthday during the pandemic, the profound bravery of our key workers and the role art played in helping the world cope during periods of intense lockdown, which just 12 months ago were completely unimaginable.

Even so, with several vaccines on the horizon, we are a step closer to returning to some sort of normality. We hope that includes being able to open our workshops again, getting our live events on the road once more and seeing you at the International Watercolour Masters ’21 in May. We are proud of our community here at the SAA and need to see you all again!Meanwhile, thank you to everyone who entered Matthew Palmer’s holiday giveaway. Alison Myeroff is the lucky winner. Congratulations!

We hope you enjoy this issue, which contains lots of arty inspiration and encouragement, including a simple tutorial on painting winter trees by our founder Alwyn Crawshaw, a rock pool by International Watercolour Master Joe Dowden, as well as details of this year’s new SAA Challenge.

Happy painting and drawing!
