*If you are responding to the Daily Telegraph offer, please see the tuition heading below. I am only offering one-to-one tuition at this time, thank you. Please contact via email in the first instance*
I am an experienced tutor having worked with adults and young people in the art world for over 25 years. I recently left a long standing full time post as an art teacher and department leader in a college to pursue my own practice and teach privately. I have a wide range of skills and approaches to offer and can tailor teaching/workshop sessions accordingly. Please note that demonstration of techniques is fine, but only for small groups of people as the activity can’t be seen and enjoyed by everyone in too large a group. I don’t demonstrate complete ‘pictures’ in one sitting as I don’t work like that.
I am happy to discuss any proposals for teaching for adults of all levels of ability.
I am happy to teach Art History/contextual studies in conjunction with practical processes. This is an important aspect of art teaching – not to be underestimated! Gallery visits and slide talks can be combined with practical sessions. I work hard to inspire confidence and fun into my teaching and students may develop at their own pace. (Exams and targets are completely optional!!)
Here are some of my workshop titles (although we can adapt these ideas very easily if required, they are starting points!)There is an emphasis on experimentation here, but these ideas are very useful to develop confidence in more ‘realistic’ work if that is what is wanted.
*Confidence in mark making!*
Playing with composition and layering to develop a strategy for painting
*Abstract adventures!*
Making use of observations, experiences, photographs, memories and the sheer pleasure of painting to create great pictures!
*Let go and develop your drawing!*

*Using the surface to create great paintings!*

Mixing media and breaking the traditional rules of watercolour to enrich and set your painting alight!
*Dynamic colour in painting*
Understanding contrast and colour theory to make your choices work in painting.
*Making more of acrylic paint*
