“Although I had painted in the past I had used acrylic as my media and had painted in an abstract style. I had recently started using watercolour, trying out landscapes and seascapes. I really wanted to know how to go about constructing flowers in watercolour. I had read various books but felt that I would benefit from having some tuition and found Cheryl on the SAA website. She came to my house and I had 4 hours of nonstop learning. I learnt how to construct a drawing, the prospective and little tips on how to hide the pencil lines. This was very useful as I could see how to get started. We discussed colour, painting techniques and shadows which was an area which I had struggled, in the past. I then painted my selected flower under her patient guidance. I was so very pleased with the results and for 3-4 days following the tuition I had the confidence to paint several more flowers.”
I found Cheryl’s teaching technique suited me down to the ground. She was personable, concise and knowledgeable showing each technique and answering the questions I had. I felt that I got more than the ability to paint flowers, I learned how to draw all over again. I would not hesitate to recommend her as she has truly helped me onto my road with watercolour.” August 2013
“I thoroughly enjoy Cheryl’s botanical workshops at Barrow on Trent, and in particular being one of a small group of eight participants in a relaxed learning environment. The themed workshops are very well planned and some lovely botanical materials are provided. Cheryl?s excellent teaching skills, combined with her professional demonstrations, guided practice and reinforcement, produce a well rounded day. Cheryl enthusiastically demonstrates techniques in both drawing and the use of watercolour and shows how these techniques combine to show the colour and form of her particular style of portraying natural subjects. Cheryl is, however, very flexible and adjusts to my specific learning needs as a beginner with a medical condition, as well as coping with more experienced students alongside myself. I have attended many of Cheryl?s workshops and eagerly look forward to the next one.” – July 2012
“Many thanks for the photograph you sent of the snapdragon. Thank you also for a great workshop which I enjoyed very much -a lovely relaxing atmosphere, an excellent tutor – all in all, a marvellous day watercolour painting. I can thoroughly recommend a workshop with Cheryl.” – 2012
“Cheryl Wilbraham is a notable painter. Whether her works in botanical art are life size or enlarged they have impact , are lovely to look at and have great wall appeal . A respected teacher of flower painting, she is a good demonstrator and gives hands-on advice and guidance at her workshops. There is always a colourful array of plants and flowers for her students to select specimens from to draw and paint . The chance to join one of Cheryl’s classes is an enjoyable experience and one which I am happy to recommend and by the way, there is soft background music to listen to which is so relaxing and is a bonus !” – 2012
“I first heard about Cheryl when my grandmother went to one of her art lessons and told me about the techniques she had learnt. I was really hoping to have some art lessons over the summer and from what my grandmother had said I thought Cheryl would be the perfect fit. As I haven?t ever done much watercolour before I really wanted to lean the techniques. My lesson with Cheryl was very enjoyable and informative, as she took me through all the techniques that she thought would benefit me. She really took the time to get to know how I like to work so we could make the most of the time we had for the lesson. I would highly recommend going to have a lesson with Cheryl and I will be going back again soon.”
“Having just bought a fabulous watercolour painting of Anemones by Cheryl Wilbraham, cannot stop looking at it, it?s lovely, and I?m thrilled to bits with it. I have also had a painting lesson from Cheryl in July, bought for me by my son and daughter in law, and found Cheryl charming and very easy to learn from and inspired me to carry on painting.” – 2012.
