Mists and colours of autumn

Held by John Horton

A one day course. Tuesday 20/10/20. We start at 10.00 am. for tea or coffee moving into the studio at 10.30 am. with a light lunch 1.00 to 2.00 pm. and finish 4.30 to 5.00 pm. I work in a friendly and relaxed workspace. We begin by laying down successive washes drying off with a hair dryer using pre stretched Arches 140 lb HP watercolour paper. I like to create the illusion of light and distance. I also use ‘wet into wet’ techniques. Once the washes are established to give a colour and tonal base the detail can be added and finally the tweaking and balance of contrast and shadow to produce a finished picture. In the day we will paint 2 pictures and I will take you through each one stage by stage. It’s fascinating that although we work on the same composition, all pictures differ and interesting effects will emerge! I am happy to take complete beginners and all abilities beyond. It’s always fun to experiment with new approaches to the wonderful medium of watercolor!
