Take the fear out of sketching on location! There is no substitute for getting out there and capturing the essence of what you see – as you see it. (Painting from photographs can be disappointing – the photographic image often losing the very qualities that attracted you to paint it).
Creating quick, spontaneous and lively paintings with the minimum of fuss puts the fun back into painting on location. No cumbersome easel to draw attention to the artist at work – just you, a tin of watercolour pencils, a couple of brushes and a bottle of water.
Charles’ infectious, light-hearted approach will mesmerise you – watch as he reveals how to turn layers of different coloured scribble, miraculously, into skies, mountains, trees, country scenes and idyllic beaches and then adds simple figures that glow with life and movement from a few well placed ‘blobs and lines’. It’s wonderful to watch and so easy to emulate!
Have fun playing around with the simple exercises and then try out your new found skills on two beautiful paintings! The first is a serene landscape with distant mountains, moody skies, a wooded hillside and two figures walking along the country path to create the focal point. The second painting shows you how to create an idyllic beach scene with water lapping onto the sandy shore while clouds drift overhead.
This video is guaranteed fun with fabulous results! It’s quick, it’s clever, and as Charles says “It’s easy peasy!
