Violets in Watercolour

Anita paints one the earliest blooming flowers of the year – the violet. She paints this flower’s petals using a mix of ultramarine blue and dioxazine purple – the perfect combination to recreate the violet colour. Painting in layers, Anita demonstrates that many transparent washes helps to retain luminance and the delicacy of the petals. She also teaches us how you can rediscover tones and highlights by lifting out and that glazing over the stalks helps them to recede in the picture, accentuating the blooms as the focal point of the painting.
