The Society of Eastbourne Artists was founded in 1946 and now has close to 200 members. From the 1960s it exhibited at the old Towner Gallery but now uses different venues around the town including the prestigious Assembly Rooms at the Town Hall. We are working on an exciting program for our 70th Anniversary in 2016.
The Society's aim is to promote the study of art with a lively program of monthly meetings and demonstrations as well as staging its own exhibitions. There is also a popular annual outing each year as well as a yearly luncheon.
Membership is open to all who appreciate art. Members include artists of all abilities and even those who do not paint. Membership fees are £20 per year at present. It allows free entry to our monthly demonstrations. These are held on the third Friday of each month with a variety of genre and themes including professional artists demonstrating working with a diverse array of mediums, critiques and lectures. Guests are welcome for a nominal entrance fee.
All evening meetings start at 7.15 pm until 9.30pm (Doors open 6.45pm.)
Membership also entitles you to exhibit and sell work at the exhibitions organised by the Society. The variety of subjects, mediums and techniques used, culminate in presenting some of the largest art shows in the area.
The Society supports many local charities including The Alexandra Cottage Homes and The Mayor's charities.
