Painting this little boat subject is really about balancing warm and cool colours. The cool blue will be contrasted with the warm red in the surrounding mud – understanding this will help with your paint mixes that you can then use in other paintings at home. The mixes will not necessarily be true to life but will strengthen the overall feeling of warmth, making the painting more inviting, and giving the painting a greater sense of depth.
You will also be working with large brushes in a loose painting style.
