SAA Live - Jason Skill Demonstration - Italian Urn in Watercolour

Join Jason Skill as he demonstrates and highlights some of the working methods of John Singer Sargent.

Although known as one of the finest watercolour painters of all time much of his work was in fact created using watercolour and gouache. His work was focussed predominantly on capturing the look of bright sunlight.  Jason’s Italian Urn painting will show how Sargent used wax resist (candle-wax resist sticks ) to stop out light sections and add a degree of texture and glitter effect to the picture. This will then be followed by light transparent watercolour within the lighter areas of the picture.

Jason then finishes off the picture using gouache in the darker shadowed areas to add weight and slower visual sections. We hope this demonstration will be interesting and a little different in approach.
