New Laith Barn, Malham
I've painted this scene several times before, but this time, I particularly immersed myself in the foreground tree. I love big, old gnarly trees, and this one has a lot of character that is quite difficult to ignore. I battled with the textures of its trunk for a long while, trying desperately to avoid creating any faces within it; I'm not sure I totally succeeded - if you stare at it long enough, I believe you may start to see a face looking out at you.
This painting was produced while exhibiting and demonstrating at Northern Art Fair, in July 2023.
