Stormy Broadstairs

Karen McKenzie

Turner found inspiration in the beautiful skies from Margate. Along the coast in Broadstairs Karen too loves to watch the light in the disparate cloud formations and stormy skies from her home where she has a view of the sea. Most of her paintings reflect her love of nature and light in some way. There is a long history of English watercolourists, like John Sell Cottman and the romantic artists, painting wet and moody skies with fluid watercolour. Karen takes her inspiration from them and follows in their footsteps on wet sand. She is an elected member of the East Kent Art Society (www.eastkentartsociety.co.uk), set up by Alfred Palmer, RA in 1902.
