Exmouth Art Group has for seventy years been "encouraging the appreciation and practice of the visual arts in this district". This was the declared aim of our founders, a group of seven artists who met in 1946 at a local school wishing to share skills and enthusiasms and organise joint art exhibitions. Now with almost 200 members, we have a full and varied schedule of events and activities which allow local artists to come together to share their enthusiasms and passion for the visual arts. We meet regularly for demonstrations and critiques, talks by guest speakers, informal painting sessions, coach trips to art based locations and plein air working. We hold three significant exhibitions locally each year. Since 1955, when several members first knocked at their door asking for permission to sketch in the grounds, we have been privileged to have the unfailing support of the Lindsay-Fynn family and Nigel and Heleen Lindsay-Fynn are our second generation Patrons. Members range from age eighteen to ninety-two, from the self-taught amateur to the trained professional, and working in a variety of styles and disciplines. Our eclectic character is one of the reasons, we believe, we are such a successful, dynamic Group, embracing the traditional but at the same time maintaining a contemporary outlook. We exhibit regularly and have an unbroken record of holding our major annual autumn event. We hold our Annual Exhibition in October, which we hold at an impressive venue on the seafront. For the last few years we have invited Exmouth Community College students to display some pieces and their artwork certainly adds a different buzz to the event. We also have Artist's in residence painting with various mediums for visitors to watch. We are so proud to continue the ethos of those seven inspired artists in continuing to be active contributors to a vibrant art community in this modest-sized seaside town.
