The Glasgow Scribes are a hobby group of calligraphers who meet on 9 Saturday mornings during September to May. Members have varied interests, skills and experience and live within travelling distance of Glasgow. Our monthly meetings and 2 member paid workshops are held at Glasgow Caledonian University. Visitors are welcome to attend our events.
In 1998 the Glasgow Scribes were founded by a small group of hobby calligraphers who wanted to develop their calligraphy skills after formal evening and day classes and to meet fellow writers. The group has friendly, enthusiastic and participate members who share a wide ranging base of calligraphy skills. Members meet 9 times per year on a Saturday morning between September and May each year in Glasgow Caledonian University. The Glasgow Scribes is funded by annual membership fees (currently £40) and visitor fees (£5 per meeting attended) to help pay for group activities and room hire charges. Member skills and interests are developed via an annual events programme which is decided at the group's May AGM. We also hold 2 x 1 day workshops which are paid for by book in advance participants. Our annual exhibition of members work is held each May/June in a major Glasgow city centre venue. Visitors are welcome to attend our meetings for a small donation of £5 per meeting.
