Hitchin Art Club

Hitchin Art Club

Membership today is an enthusiastic collection of many and varied personalities and abilities with a common bond of the love of art.
The Club atmosphere is such that help, assistance, guidance and inspiration flows readily across gender and age groupings - this is well illustrated by the content and quality of work in our Main Annual Exhibition as well as regular smaller exhibitions and sales throughout the year.
Art Club sessions are many and varied and always built around a theme. Although many members like to participate in what is on offer, some also choose to plough their own furrow and work on their own projects. So there is plenty of opportunity to learn something new or work on something of your own choice in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.
Weekly themes have included life drawing, still life, group collage, group masterpiece - we each do a small section of an image and join our contributions together at the end with some interesting consequences! In addition there are opportunities for outdoor painting.
Professional speakers come to the club regularly. They might offer advice through critique, knowledge by giving a talk on a particular theme, or work with us in a new medium, particular topic or technique.
All in all, life in the club is varied and interesting but most of all you can meet friendly people with a common interest and who are passionate about art.
Hitchin Art club meets in and by kind permission of the Kingshott School on Stevenage Road, Hitchin on a Tuesday evening (school term only) starting at 7.30 until 9.30pm. Special events may have different venues and these are highlighted on the Events page of this website.
Membership is £25.00 annually plus £2.00 for demonstration evenings.

Hitchin Art Club grew out of Art Classes held in the 1930's. These were so successful that they became more formal, resulting in the formation of the Hitchin Art Club in 1943. The club continues to prosper and has become part of the artistic fabric of Hitchin, holding exhibitions and contributing to the artistic culture of North Hertfordshire.
