Bernadette Beckett

Newcastle County Down, Down

Bernadette Beckett MBA B.Ed
I am a self-taught artist and trained teacher and taught ‘Painting in Oil and Acrylic’ in Stranmillis University College for seven years. I tutor in community settings and demonstrate as a guest tutor for painting groups. My work is exhibited by Gormley’s Fine Art, Belfast.
I have always been inspired by nature. I find landscape and the richness of colour a balm to the soul. The ever-changing light and atmospheric conditions in Ireland are endlessly fascinating. Increasingly I find interest in townscapes, and landscapes outside Ireland.
I see beauty in many different subjects and am drawn to strong colour and contrasts of light and dark. I have a condition called synaesthesia, which is the mixing of senses – I see numbers, letters and names in a specific colour, I see shapes when I listen to music and I dream in vivid colour.
