Hi! I’m Chrissy. I come from and live in a village surrounded by the gentle south Leicestershire countryside. I am a, very recently, retired French, English and Special Needs teacher with a passion for sharing skills and knowledge. I have three rescue cats, a gecko and two children. I love all things ‘wild’ and have a particular love for the Scottish Highlands.
My art is varied and evolving rapidly. I have a family background in watercolour landscapes but am now enjoying experimenting with abstract art and other 2-D art forms such as, collage, acrylic and mixed media.
When creating my art, I use a wide variety of materials, depending on the result I am hoping for. I currently have at my disposal: watercolour paints, pencils and pens, acrylic paints and pens, fine liner pens, graphite pencils, charcoal pencils, pastels and pastel pencils. I use a variety of surfaces, from watercolour paper to canvas and everything in between.
Because I have a very low boredom threshold, I like to evolve rapidly and will create 3 or 4 images of a particular subject in one style before moving on to something else entirely different. This tends to revolve around again, like a carousel of ideas! I am very inspired by nature and trees but equally love experimenting with urban sketching and drawing animals. I love looking at what other artists are doing as well and find that this is the best way to support experimentation and the continual evolution of subjects and styles.
Art has been a life-saver for me. I have been living with a chronic health condition for some time and this has limited the amount of physical activity I can do. Where I used to find solace hiking in the natural world, I have now managed to find the same beneficial effects in creating art. I love the process – even the tricky bit where you can’t see the final image coming together! There is nothing like the satisfaction of standing back and realising that I have created something tangible and beautiful.
