Hitchin, Hertfordshire

Gilli Austin (also known as Gillian Austin) was born in Watford, Hertfordshire in 1966. She was painting from a very young age, partly due to her Uncle's influence, who was also an artist. She is mainly self-taught, with a little formal training from Hitchin College and The Arts Council. Her first exhibition was at The Denington Gallery, Stevenage in 1988, where she later went onto exhibitions in London. She joined Alwyns Artists and then joined The Society for All Artists in 1992., becoming a full time Professional in 2000 She hasn't looked back since!  She has been commissioned for numerous paintings and drawings and has participated in numerous national exhibitions (including 4 SAA exhibitions, 1 SWA and 1 RBSA exhibition, Prelude & Alexandra Palace, London). To date she has had four solo shows of her own in Hertfordshire & Kent. She has had her work published through The Design Artists Copyright Society (DACS), appeared on television, held demonstrations and has been involved in charity fund-raising events. An International-selling artist who's work is housed in Public, Commercial and Private art collections across the Globe. She has even been featured in the World Guinness Book of Records. She was a member of Axis Database for 9 years, and is currently an active member of DACS (Design & Artists Copyright Society), having campaigned for artist's resale rights alongside other DACS members including Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin & Stella Vine. She has also published her own greeting card range. She has up until recently been teaching pastel and acrylic painting at Tim's Art Supplies in Hitchin, Herts & at the B Gallery in Toddington, Beds. She taught at Tim's for 6 & half years in total. She is currently living in Hitchin, Hertfordshire with her husband and two children. She is currently looking at new venues in the UK to exhibite her new artworks for 2014.
