I have taught painting and drawing since leaving university in 1988. At first concentrating on watercolour, i then branched out into the mechanics of drawing and life drawing. As the years progressed I began to teach oil painting, acrylics, mixed media, pen and wash and collage, broadening the range of mediums I could teach with confidence and skill.
The bulk of my teaching has always remained with watercolour, where I have tried to master all the common methods, styles and approaches used by artists both past and present. This took years to achieve, but eventually enabled me to classify myself as an expert in the medium, picking up work from museums showing audiences how artists of the past created their art by copying watercolours in their collections.
My search to underestand how to very broadly handle the medium also promoted extensive experimentation, helping me find new ways to handle watercolour and create some very individual approaches to painting- as seen in my eight feet by four feet wet-in-wet seascapes created using a garden water spray, car sponge and blotting paper in addition to paint and brushes.
If you are looking for an artist to provide demonstrations I have considerable experience both in teaching artists of all levels and working for materials manufacturers promoting products.
