Ruth Buchanan

Wetherby, West Yorkshire

Ruth Buchanan’s award winning paintings have been exhibited at International Horse Events as well as in galleries in London and abroad. In the past four consecutive years, her work has been selected by an international jury of masters to be one of fifteen artists representing the best of English watercolour at the International ‘Fabriano in Aquarello’ in the famous Italian paper making town. Ruth is represented in both private and corporate collections worldwide. Client identities are kept in strictest confidence, but include notable names in both the spheres of Equestrianism and in The Arts.

Whilst both her parents were from Yorkshire, Ruth was born in London and raised in Northampton. She returned North to complete her degree in Leeds, and has lived in Yorkshire ever since. After a career in Illustration and design, Ruth became a full-time professional artist in 2001. She has taught workshops in the UK and in the USA, and writes articles for Art Publications on both sides of the pond.

Ruth’s fascination with the form, movement and dynamics of horses, humans and other animals is realised in her paintings of light in various media. Underpinned by her skilled draughtsmanship and knowledge of anatomy and biomechanics, the result is an exciting and contemporary take on the tradition of sporting art.

Ruth undertakes a limited number of commissioned paintings each year.
