1. As a child in Northern Ireland I loved to draw and paint so it was not perhaps surprising that a career in Art followed. I attended Ulster College of Art and Design from 1965 to 1969 studying Painting and Textile Design.
2. I then moved to London where I worked as a Textile Designer for Courtaulds and Potter Wood Studios before leaving to freelance. During this time I was fortunate enough to be selected as one of the top 20 UK designers to exhibit at Texprint in London and then at the International Trade Fair in Amsterdam.
3. On moving to Wiltshire with my family in the 1980,s I started to concentrate more on my painting, and initially became well known for my colourful silk paintings in particular. However I found I enjoyed change and working in a number of different media, including watercolour, pastel, oils and printmaking. Now much of my work is in acrylics, with semi-abstracts and portraiture of various kinds being recurrent themes.
4.The inspiration for my work comes from my life interests, places visited , people met and vivid visual memories. The pieces themselves try to develop an interplay of colour, line, form and texture to create a harmony and unity in my body of work, which ranges from the realistic - often produced on site - to the more abstract which emerge from reflection and experimention in the studio.
