After buying a derelict farm 12 years ago in North Yorkshire, after rebuilding we decided it would be a good idea to buy some hens, not only for their eggs, but also to study and paint!
We went to a local chicken breeder and bought six hens! He asked why we wanted them and we replied "TO PAINT" he gave us a very wise flat-cap Yorkshire look - Eat: Eggs: but never to Paint!!
