getting ready to sail

Keith Blessed

I painted this because of the unusual angle and subject matter, also I was drawn to the light and dark elements and the reflections in the water. the other attraction was the hustle and bustle of the crew getting ready to set sail, it told a story, and the thoughts of where they were going to sail.
I live in Whitby, very close to the harbour, but also close to the fishing villages of Staithes and Robin Hoods Bay, so most of my work is influenced by these villages, I try to get different views from the norm, and also to catch the light, most of my paintings are about the juxtaposition of light against dark. I am fortunate to live also close to the North Yorkshire Moors, and I love painting the atmospheric, large skies with flashes of light on the landscape, my paintings are all about drama and atmosphere. The painting submitted is from a photograph by
Chris Blake, permission received.
