The House At Pickerings Wharf
I pass this house often when I walk along the River Weaver. Mid way between Frodsham & Northwich is Pickerings Wharf. Before the Manchester Ship Canal was built the River Weaver was tidal, and Pickerings Wharf was the highest tidal point. It was once the busiest place on the river - pack horses would arrive with salt from the mines in mid Cheshire. The salt was loaded onto barges which waited for the tide to go out to carry them to Weston Point Docks,Runcorn for onward transfer.
This house(and one other) is on the wrong side of the river - with no road ! The owner uses a farm track in Summer to reach the main road, but in winter he has to boat across the river to the lane opposite where he leaves his car. sorry for boring you!!
