Three Tomatoes - Stage One
Once you've drawn out your still life, place a thin layer of orangey red colour on your tomatoes. If possible try to avoid your stalks/vines. The brush you should use should be a large round soft bristled brush, similar to that used in watercolour painting. The wash should be thin enough for you to still see your pencil marks. This is an exercise I use for my students to avoid any artistic block or that initial fear of the white paper. Once you are more confident in your painting you may no longer need to do this stage, but just go straight into it.
