History by the Sea
On holiday, exploring the island of Samos, I stumbled across this ancient Greek Church. The church was Agios Nikolaus, near Limnianos, Samos, Greece, and people still worshipped there from time to time. There were icons of dark skinned saints, and some wall decoration on the plain white plastered interior walls. A musty smell lingered inside - heat and dampness. The smell of the herbs growing wild, and the salty sea air made a big impression. I found the domes & different angles of the building quite difficult to paint but when I look at this picture, it all comes back to me in a flash of scented air and mustiness.
