Sunlight shaft through Bluebell Wood

Catherine Kingham

I set myself a challenge to paint a bluebell wood, and this one is only a short walk across the fields. The day I was there, the bluebells were out in various shades of blue, fluttering like ladys' dresses in a breeze. The trees are birch, oak and mixed woodland, and the trunks posed a challenge as they were all shapes and sizes. The sunlight filtering through the canopy added mystery to the scene, and the track wound its way down through the trees & bluebells. The scent was phenomenal - a heady mix of bluebells, sunshine and spicy earthy smells.
