The Spirit of Portugal in Watercolour’
Painting holiday with ‘Art in the Algarve’ – April 29th – May 6th 2015
Olhao presents the watercolour painter with a wonderful variety of exciting
and colourful subject matter. On this course Paul will guide you through
his techniques for capturing the rustic buildings, vibrant markets, waterfront moorings
and spirit of the place in a loose, impressionistic style.
With studio lessons and plenty of on-site sketching and painting, there will also be advice
on selecting subjects, composition, adding figures to a scene and creating a
sense of light, mood and atmosphere in your work. Aimed at artists who are confident with the watercolour basics and wish to develop their plein air strategy and a looser style.
Organised by ‘Art in the Algarve’, an established company with a strong reputation
for exceptional art holidays, please see their website for further details and
booking information.

A VISION OF FRANCE IN WATERCOLOUR – 18th – 25th JULY 2015
Join Paul for a wonderful painting week in the Parc Naturel du Perigord-Limousin, South West France.
Surrounded by truly inspiring subject matter, this painting holiday will focus on developing your confidence and creative approach to plein air painting, as well as producing on site sketches that can be used for reference to paint from later in the studio.
Paul is an award winning artist and encouraging tutor, and teaches a painting strategy based on the
key principles of good design, sound drawing, creative control of the watercolour basics and expressive
brush work. We all see the world around us differently and whilst Paul favours a loose, impressionistic approach, these principles apply to any style and he is keen to help you develop and express your own creative vision.
With instructive demonstrations and personal guidance, he will offer advice on choosing subjects, composition and tonal sketches, as well as techniques for capturing the light, mood, atmosphere and character of the rural villages, local market and beautiful landscape.
