The original photograph you can see at the bottom was taken on a miserable day in Windermere, but I used the idea to adapt my pastel picture at the top for the workshop. The middle picture is featured in my book “Painting Pastel Landscapes” by Search Press.
It’s interesting to see how an idea can be adapted, the content altered, to make something appealing to the artist. How do we create drama or a mood in a painting?
We’ll also be blending colours with our fingers and also with pastel shapers/blenders, overlaying colours to create subtle mixes. We’ll use masking tape to achieve sharp, crisp and clear edges, how to overcome common problems, and finally presentation of the finished piece.
A great place to start is our Inspiration for All page where you’ll find a host of free videos waiting for you – they’re a fantastic taster of the tutorials you’ll be able to watch part of your SAA membership.
