Capture the colour and atmosphere of the seasons in pastel with professional artist Jeremy Ford.
Spring:
A bluebell meadow with a foreground tree and a distant hedgerow, where you will learn how to layer a sky, how to blend and soften colours and how to work with both limited and fine detail.
Summer:
A beach scene on coloured ground where the base paper is part of the foreground beach. Jeremy will show you how to use masking tape to delineate the divide between sea and sky and also how to paint waves and include distant figures.
Autumn:
A big, dramatic sky forms the backdrop to a richly-coloured moorland. The white of the paper is used to form the clouds from negative shapes, which are given depth and volume by the use of greys to create shadow.
Winter:
A lone figure and a dog wade through drifts of snow against an orange sunset, where the colours graduate subtly from blue to orange as they meet the horizon. Middle-distance trees are backlit by the last rays of the sun and the cold is palpable.
