Greg
This is a portrait of my son, Greg, I painted him because I love him and he has an amazing face full of interesting shapes, colours, shadows and contours, plus I particularly wanted to show his beautiful red hair and unusual complexion. To achieve this, I applied many thin layers of oil paint using brushes and my fingers, gradually building up the colour and texture, and creating the natural skin pigment. I like to use my hands to move the paint around as this has exciting and unexpected results and adds a part of me to the mark making, resulting in a more personal portrait.
