Breathing space

Catherine Embleton

This piece began intuitively with leftover paint, mark making and collage. Many layers later and this colourful mix of the abstract and representational urban landscape began to emerge. I experimented by using prints of my photos of both manmade objects and nature and collaging sections into the work. I wanted to portray the idea of the importance of finding a space for yourself in your own physical environment in whatever way feels right for you. My way is through nature and music. The visible song lyrics of ‘a sunny sky’ and ‘find a silver lining’ played a large part in the development of the final result.
