West Yorkshire

and I am a mixed media artist and musician based in Keighley, West Yorkshire. Having begun painting during lock down, this new passion has brought me so much joy in observing and considering the details of life and also unlimited opportunities for letting go and being creative.
Using acrylics and self-printed collage papers I create colourful, semi-abstract art inspired largely by the landscape. The ever-changing skies and the stories of the life beneath fascinate me. Initially working intuitively in many layers with no plan for the final outcome, I play with mark-making, texture and colour. I use gel printing on tissue paper to provide some transparency, allowing previous layers to peep through and reveal their story. I also incorporate ‘found’ objects such as teabags, sewing patterns and old maps into my work. It is only later on in the process that I begin to consider the final direction for the piece. I also collage old sheet music and the lyrics which can end up influencing the end result. My process for creation reflects the idea of the ‘personal landscape’ and how a person’s experiences can shape and influence their own unique picture.
