Wigan Pier and Orwell
It's eighty years to the day since The Road to Wigan Pier by the British writer George Orwell was first published on march 8 1937. So I thought what better reason than this to re-post my painting of The Orwell & Wigan Pier. I painted this with a nod to the style of Harry Walder a local Wigan Artist and with just a hint of John Atkinson Grimshaw. A couple more facts for you, the Kennet in the fore ground is seventy years old this year and the Leeds Liverpool canal was completed 200 hundred years ago last year. Art by Chris Halliwell
