Perspective on the Past, Cadwith

Alice Hole

When I saw this view of Cadgwith, I was inspired by the atmosphere, colours and textures. I wanted to capture these alongside the sense of history; the echoes of fishermen past and present who have used this unspoilt cove for centuries. It felt like the scene was all about layers. Physical layers of rust, paint and rock, but also of time, stories and lives.
I used fine line pen, acrylic ink and acrylic gouache making the artwork a sort of drawing and painting in one. I built up layers of acrylic ink in the background through which the lines of the original drawing can be seen. Then I used acrylic gouache in the foreground to give a more solid density which hopefully adds to the ‘layers’ I wanted to create.
