In the Shelter of the Harbour, Coverack
In this drawing of beautiful Coverack on The Lizard in southwest Cornwall, I tried to convey the sense of calm and shelter I felt when standing next to the dense harbour wall. The boats have signs of wear from where they've weathered the sea but within these walls, all felt safe and peaceful. The smaller boats seem slight and fragile but tethered to that sturdy wall, they feel secure and protected. I particularly enjoyed drawing the textures - the rough, barnacle covered harbour walls, the battered wood of the boat in the foreground and the wet sand.
